Overcoming A Career Slump
As a Manhattan-based NY Career Counselor and New York City Career Coach, I can assure you that overcoming a career slump will be an experience that will help you in the long run.
From time to time all of us can experience a career slump and it can be a meaningful experience. A career slump and change in the routine of the day to day allows us to identify the gaps in our work and career.
Questions to ask yourself include:
Is your work in line with your interests, motivated skills, values and/or personality style?
If not, this might be the perfect time to make some changes in your work and your life. Brainstorm with yourself and/or a trusted professional how you can fill in the gaps.
It can be very disorienting and disappointing when you are experiencing a career slump. The one thing you want to try to prevent is this feeling of being unhappy and unsettled to affect other areas of your life.
Try to use this time in a productive way. Think about parts of your life that need attention while you are experiencing a career slump. For example, are you paying ample attention to your health/well being? Your relationships/ family? Pleasure/recreation, money/finances, spiritual/religious and learning/personal development? If not, then re-direct your energies and attention and remember, you probably have experienced these moments before and found a way to make things better for yourself.
Set clear, manageable and meaningful goals to make your situation better and take daily action to achieve them.
As we approach 2016 think about one change you would like to make and set 5 actionable steps. Start today! Good luck and happy new year!
